From the dog's pulling harness, a knot was opened from the string loop, to which the line is attached. What to do?
Dog harnesses usually have a loop tied from a thin rope to which the bungee line is attached. This knot, like the condition of the sled dog equipment and the dog's equipment in general, should be checked at regular intervals. For example, frayed and worn belts should be replaced in time to minimize the risk of the equipment breaking in a real situation. Even rubber band elastics get slack over time and use, so it is worthwhile to renew them from time to time.
In multi-dog harness sports, the length of the attachment loop of the pulling harness can influence the fact that dogs of different sizes can be made to run side by side with their heads next to each other, even if the harness is attached to the harness/headline from the same place. For a smaller/shorter dog, the attachment loop is longer than for a bigger/taller canicross next to it.
So there may be a need to open the fastening loop from time to time. The knot can also get untied by accident, if not enough extra is left at the ends of the knot. It's also worth checking every time you use a new harness!
In the video below, we show you how to re-tie the so-called fisherman's knot (other names for that knot are at least angler's knot, lover's knot, rower's knot, Englishman's knot). This is the knot that is usually used in a pulling harness. The model is in the video Non-stop dogwear Freemotion harness .
The fisherman's knot is practically two normal knots made side by side. Simple! Of course, if you want, you can also tie a different kind of knot to the fastening loop, as long as it is secure!
