The Ruffwear Palisades is a thoroughly thought-out system, and its built-in compression system sets it apart from all other dog backpacks. Thanks to the adjustable elastic cords inside the bags, the volume of the bags can be adjusted, and the backpack’s center of gravity sits as close to the dog’s body as possible, preventing the pack from swinging side to side and disturbing the dog’s balance.

The Ruffwear Palisades is based on the quickly detachable bags attached to the Y-shaped Ruffwear Web Master harness underneath. The harness is already popular among hikers: with chest and belly straps and a sturdy handle on the back, you can assist your dog in difficult terrain, and the harness cannot be slipped off by backing up.

The Palisades pack is perfectly sized and equipped for multi-day hikes—or of course, shorter trips as well.

Choosing the size of the Ruffwear Palisades Pack

First, measure your dog’s chest girth (widest point behind the front legs). Then compare the other measurements for that size in the table to your dog.

• The cross chest strap can be tightened smaller; the maximum length is listed in the table.
• Make sure especially that the length of the longitudinal chest strap is sufficient so the cross chest strap doesn’t rub the back of the armpits.
• The length of the back piece shows how far back the rear belly strap reaches.
