Using the Leuchtie light collar

Using the light collar is easy; the collar is in OFF mode when the battery part is facing upwards and in ON mode when the battery part is turned downwards. The operating principle is based on an automatic ON-OFF switch inside the battery part. So the light collar has no extra switches and does not need to be unnecessarily opened. OFF mode activates when the battery part of the collar has been facing upwards for about 1 minute.

The Leuchtie light collar is 100% waterproof, so your dog can even swim with it on. It is made in Germany from moisture- and dirt-repellent material.

Battery

The Leuchtie Mini light collar runs on two AAAA batteries and the operating time with one set of batteries is up to 50 hours. When the collar starts to dim, the batteries should be replaced so the collar shines brightly again.

Choosing the color of your Leuchtie

All Leuchtie collars, regardless of shade, are highly visible in the dark, so you can safely choose the color you like best. 

A darker shade plastic casing, however, tints the bright light of the LEDs somewhat more than a transparent or light-colored plastic casing. When choosing a color, it may be good to consider these factors:

• If your dog usually stays close to you and has short fur, a slightly less bright / warm shade might be more pleasant for your eyes in the dark. Such colors include red and pink.
• If your dog often roams freely and farther away from you or has long hair, you might want to maximize the light brightness. The brightest colors are cool tones such as turquoise and neon green.

Choosing the size of the Leuchtie light collar

The Leuchtie light collar is put on by slipping it over the dog's head. So, size selection is based on the head circumference, not the neck. 

1. Measure the snug circumference at the widest part of the dog's head, usually in front of the ears. See the example in the picture below.
2. Choose the Leuchtie size closest to this measurement. If your dog is between sizes, it's usually best to choose the smaller size.

If your dog's ears are not particularly large and protruding, you don't need to consider them when choosing the Leuchtie size. The Leuchtie size should be chosen small enough so that the collar does not slip over the ears by itself even if the dog sniffs the ground.

The collar comes with an attachment loop, which allows you to securely fasten the Leuchtie to a regular collar or harness if desired. This is especially good to do if you buy a Leuchtie with growth room for a young dog.
