Easily replaceable lenses for original Rex Specs dog sunglasses / protective glasses.
Rex Specs replacement lenses fit the original Rex Specs goggles. NOTE: THESE LENSES DO NOT FIT V2 GOGGLES (except Small-Wide size). If your dog's goggles are the newer V2 version released in spring 2022, or size Small-Wide, see the product: Rex Specs V2 goggle lenses.
How to recognize which version your dog's glasses are:
- The V2 model of the glasses was released in spring 2022. You can recognize the model by the RexSpecs text printed on the frames. The lenses themselves have no logo.
- The earlier original version's frame plastic has no logo, but the RexSpecs text is found in white on the lenses themselves.
NOTE: Mirror lenses are no longer made for the original glasses, so they are only available in the pieces found in our stock. Also, the availability of smoke and clear lenses will likely end in the future, so it's advisable to buy spare lenses in advance for your stock.
With Rex Specs you take care of your dog's eyes!
The glasses protect your dog's eyes, for example, from:
- from dusty sand/dust
- from sharp branches and twigs
- from sunlight - on snow, near water, in fells and mountains
- from wind and drafts
- during treatment of eye injuries or diseases.
Our dogs' eyes are constantly put to the test - dusty street dust, sharp branches in the forest, or burning sunlight reflected from spring snow - eyes are vulnerable to sudden and long-term damage.
Rex Specs dog goggles are designed to protect dogs' eyes in all situations, both preventively and as additional protection during recovery from eye injuries. All lenses are UV400 rated and filter 99% of ultraviolet light. They are therefore suitable, for example, for dogs suffering from chronic corneal inflammation (pannus). Additionally, the lenses are made of very durable polycarbonate and have passed the impact resistance test ANSI Z87.1 rating (tested in size L).
Lens colors
Different lenses let through different amounts of light, so choose the lens tint according to the intended use. All lenses have the same UV protection (99.9% UVA and UVB), including clear ones.
- Clear - lets 92% of light through. Works in dim weather and as protective glasses, for example for hunting dogs. Scratches are least visible on clear lenses. UV protection is the same as in colored lenses.
- Smoke and Red Mirror - let 20% of light through. Work well in varying conditions, both cloudy and sunnier weather.
- Blue Mirror - lets 15% of light through. Excellent for bright weather.
Lens durability
Additionally, the lenses are made of very durable polycarbonate, so they withstand impacts excellently. However, dogs don't know to be careful with the lenses, so over time scratches may appear. Small scratches do not yet prevent the use of the lenses. Replacement lenses for Rex Specs glasses are also available cheaply as spare parts and are easy to swap into the frames.
Getting your dog used to protective glasses
Protective glasses are probably a new thing for your dog, so it's worth spending some time on training. Start by getting your dog used to just the frames and make putting them on a pleasant experience for your dog, for example with treats. Only once the dog is used to wearing the frames on its head, attach the lenses to the frames.
Lens replacement for Rex Specs frames
Rex Specs frames are made of very flexible plastic, so they can be bent quite a bit. You can remove the frames from the lenses by grabbing the top and bottom of the frames and pulling them away from each other.
You can most easily get the lenses back by starting from the bottom. Position the lens into the slot in the frame so that the small holes in the lenses fit into the hooks in the frame, and press the frame firmly against the lenses also from other sides. You can find a video on changing the lenses in the product images.
